Situated in secluded locations throughout the Great Plains, epidemic cemeteries stand as monuments to the resolve and fortitude of those making their way westward. Faced with the heartbreaking circumstances of losing children to communicable diseases, countless mothers and fathers buried their children in graves on the grasslands. With little opportunity to make their way back, it was here that parents said their final goodbye.
Years later, faithful family members risked great danger and returned to this sacred land to erect markers in an attempt to bring closure to an extraordinarily hard time.
