FALLEN

June 6, 2007

On June 5th, I watched with great sadness as Army Private William Bailey III was laid to rest. He died May 25th in Taji, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. As a husband, father, firefighter and soldier, Bailey was buried with full military honors in Bellevue, NE.

Escorted by the Patriot Riders, thousands attended his funeral service including National Guard members, Firefighters, townspeople, and his family. Bailey was the 56th Nebraska soldier to die in this conflict.

William Bailey left behind his wife and five children. He was 29.
