TO BE HEALED

Pain and suffering are two of life’s great mysteries. When genuinely experienced, one quickly understands what it means to be vulnerable; stripped down, laid open, subject to the morose desires of forces unknown. And, in a truth that is only gradually revealed, one comes to the heartbreaking understanding that pain and suffering do not travel alone.

And it is here that we attempt to make our stand. Grabbing for all the courage we can carry, we ready ourselves for the battle that lies ahead. Tragically, as it is so often the case when facing these two formidable foes, we find out how weak and compromising we really are.

But it is through the experience provided us by true pain and suffering that we come to understand grace–God’s unmerited favor. And crying out for mercy, we come to finally know what it means to be healed.
