THE MAIN STREET DINER

When you travel the back roads and byways of middle America, you get the sense that not everything is wrong in our country. Remarkably, there are still places where people are committed to preserving a way of life that is far more inclusive than exclusive.

Willing to shelve self-interests so that the common good can be served, the good people who inhabit small towns often meet at local diners. Here the discussions range from politics to finance to sports. And even though the quarters are cramped and the conversations are heated, there’s always room at the table for one more.
