What scares me is what scares you. We’re all afraid of the same things.
That’s why horror is such a powerful genre. All you have to do is ask yourself
what frightens you and you’ll know what frightens me.”

~John Carpenter, Film Director, Halloween

As the 101A on the Hiawatha Line in Minneapolis came into view, I felt a sense of relief. Looking down at my watch, I was running behind as usual–but I was confident that if I could grab the light rail to my next appointment, I might just make it without having to profusely apologize for my seriously-impaired time management skills.

Stepping toward the opening doors, I noticed a strange and menacing passenger sitting alone in one of the cars. So surprising was the figure that it stopped me right in mid-stride. Knowing that I was running late, I was ready to shrug the whole thing off and step into the car. Instead, feeling seriously creeped out, I backed away from the car, lifted my camera, and took this picture.

As the train disappeared into the Minneapolis skyline, so too did any of my chances of making it to my meeting on time. But even though I was indeed seriously late for my appointment, there is a bright side to this macabre encounter.

At least I now know what scares John Carpenter.
