The Plummer Building is one of the most architecturally significant buildings on the campus of the world-renowned Mayo Clinic located in Rochester, MN. Originally designed by Dr. Henry Plummer–an associate of the great Will and Charlie Mayo-this building fundamentally changed the way medicine is practiced throughout the known world.
By constructing a building that administratively facilitated the practice of modern medicine–replete with medical education libraries and patient record storage–the Plummer Building proved the function does ultimately follow form.
Constructed in 1927 by the Ellerbe & Co. Architectural Firm, this medical building has been listed as a National Historic Landmark and added to the list of National Historic Places.
This photograph is of the medical library that has been–and still is–utilized by some of the greatest physicians the world has ever known.
