WHAT YOU FEAR THE MOST

Photographs by David Hunnicutt

“That which you fear the most will meet you half the way.”

~Eddie Vedder

On a lonely stretch of dirt road just off Nebraska Highway 74–roughly halfway between Tobias and Norman–there’s an old Mennonite cemetery that lies at the road’s end. Abandoned for more than 50 years, I can tell you firsthand that there are things there that are more than happy to meet us half the way.

The quote from Vedder couldn’t have been paired with a better photo. It’s as if the gates are leading you in…but you dare not go any further.

Death seems so far away, but your capture is a great reminder that it’s much closer than we think.

Great photo, but creepy. Really. As Britt said, the gates seem to lead you in, but give the impression they shut behind you like a venus-fly trap.

Wow…Britt and Rod said it best!

What do you think?
