Photographs by David Hunnicutt

“Can you hurry this up a bit? I hear they eat dinner in Hell at
12 sharp and I don’t aim to be late.”

~Outlaw Thomas Ketchum, receiving his last shave
moments before he was hanged at Clayton,
New Mexico on April 26, 1901

Thomas “Black Jack” Ketchum was born on October 31, 1863 in Saba County, TX. For more than a decade, Ketchum robbed and raided territories in west Texas and eastern New Mexico. He was the only man ever hanged in Clayton, NM.
