CHILDISH THINGS

Photographs by David Hunnicutt

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, thought as a child
and reasoned as a child. When I became grown,
I put away childish things.”

~New Testament Book of I Corinthians; Chapter 13, Verse 11

“There was a time when I used to think about nice things–maybe even something brand new. But as the years go by, you kinda just put those thoughts in the back of your mind. It used to bother me some not having nice things and all–but the older I get, the more I realize that all that stuff just kind of weighs a person down.”

“I’m happy with how things are–I choose to live a simple life and it fits me pretty good. I don’t mind a little hard work now and then, it keeps me on my toes…and it makes my day go by fast.”

From time to time, we meet people are who are remarkable in their steadfastness, in their stamina, and in their perspective. By choosing to live a life that’s so incredibly out of step with society’s expectations, they prove to us firsthand that simplicity and taking pleasure in hard work are, indeed, important ingredients in the recipe for a happy existence. And by rejecting the notion that ‘we are what we own,’ they show us that there is a better way to live.

My grandparents are just those kind of people. I learn so much from them.

What do you think?
