“Close your eyes
You can close your eyes, it’s alright”

My Dear and Treasured Childhood Friend,
I found out today that you were sick—very sick. It was the worst of all possible news. Although it’s been some time since we’ve last spoken, I want you to know that I still think of you often. Indeed, there’s not a week that passes that I don’t recall our much-cherished childhood years with great fondness.
I have so many things I want to say to you that I am not sure where to begin.
First, and most of all, I want you to know that you have a childhood friend who loves you deeply and still cares much for you. Although the years have somehow found a way to divert us from the things that really matter, it’s important that you know that I still carry the past which we shared as friends close in my heart. Know that I am proud to have you as my friend and eternally grateful that we had the opportunity to share such special times together.
I can recall as if it were yesterday walking you home from school—I remember vividly the changing autumn colors and the cool crisp air that accompanied those September 1972 days. Even after forty years, I can still remember your telephone number.
I will always carry those memories with me—and I’d give anything to be able to talk with you again.
I understand that this is a journey that only you can travel but I want you to know and always remember—nothing can separate true friends. I will be thinking of you constantly and sending you as much positive energy as I can offer up.
Please know that you are much loved.
David
There is nothing that can ease the pain of losing a treasured childhood friend. All I can hope is that I will, one day, see her again. And what a joyous occasion that will be.
After a long and courageous struggle, Pam Hoyt, a childhood friend, was taken from us. She was 47.

I can’t imagine a more glorious tribute. Well done.
