“Childhood is the most beautiful of all life’s seasons.”
~Unknown
Lately, I’ve found that the most important places in my life are the ones where I spent the youngest years of my childhood. And upon returning to that cherished place of my youth, I was astonished to hear a hundred echoes whispering to me; welcoming me home; reminding me of the special moments that transpired during that wonderful period of my life–moments that I will forever hold close in my heart.
Like this photograph, most of what I recall is concealed in shadows; vague recollections of youthful experiences; fleeting light; difficulty in discerning where the water meets the sky–strangely similar to the fine line that exists where childhood gives way to growing up.
But to this day, the colors evoke a feeling of warmth and beauty and wonder–the very same feelings I had when I’d watch the sun disappear into the water in this exact spot more than 40 years ago.
The sun sets on the water in Walker, MN. Even after 40 years, it is still one of the most beautiful and special places on earth.
