On the breasts of a barmaid in Sale
Were tattooed the prices of ale
And on her behind
For the sake of the blind
Was the same information in Braille

In 1876, the now infamous Charlie Utter led a wagon train to Deadwood, SD carrying what he believed were the essential commodities of prosperity–prostitutes and alcohol. Soon after, Madam Dora DuFran, would open Deadwood’s first brothel and Tom Miller would introduce the Bella Union Saloon. From that point forward, Deadwood solidified its reputation as one of the most notorious towns of the old west.
A dust-covered bottle sits on the shelf of a long-forgotten saloon in Deadwood, SD.
