THE ROAD HOME

“Where we love is home; a home that our feet
may leave, but not our hearts.”

~Oliver Wendell Homes, Sr; taken from ‘Homesick in Heaven’

The older I get the more I am convinced that it doesn’t matter who you are or how long you have been gone, everyone has a road home. And though the months and years race by far too fast , there’s really no emotion like the one you get when you feel that magical and familiar stretch of road under your tires.

Standing on the blacktop that leads me back to the place of my childhood, I am reminded that everyone, indeed, has a road home.

Autumn leaves fall on the pavement of a northern Minnesota highway.

“A man travels the world in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.”
    George Edward Moore

Home reminds us of the magical powers of our senses to bring back those times when the best of life was a cup of hot chocolate after playing in the snow, socks just out of the dryer, and Sunday dinner.
