In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, cholera and influenza epidemics ravaged farming and ranching communities located throughout the Great Plains. With few exceptions, victims were buried in mass graves. To memorialize their losses, families erected markers at the sites to honor loved ones who were not afforded decent burials.
