ROOM 217

“Well, you know, Danny, when something happens, it can leave a trace of itself behind. Say like, if someone burns toast. Well, maybe things that happen leave other kinds of traces behind. Not things that anyone can notice, but things that people who “shine” can see. Just like they can see things that haven’t happened yet. Well, sometimes they can see things that happened a long time ago. I think a lot of things happened right here in this particular hotel over the years. And not all of ‘em was good.”

~Dick Hallorann, Caretaker, The Overlook Hotel, taken from the movie The Shining

The Overlook Hotel is the fictional dwelling immortalized in Stephen King’s epic novel ‘The Shining.’ And although The Overlook doesn’t really exist, King’s true inspiration for such an evil place does. Recognized as one of the last remaining grand hotels in the contiguous 48 states, The Stanley Hotel is every bit as ghostly as it has been portrayed in the novel.

With ghosts rumored to roam various parts of the hotel, the staff will tell you that the entire fourth floor and Room 217 are by far the most notorious. After exploring these floors with my covert guide MaryAnne, I am a now believer.

Creepy indeed! What a great post for Halloween. You have seen some amazing places and met some equally amazing people. I bet MaryAnne has a story or two to tell.

The shot itself just lends more to the creepiness…love how it’s really dark, but there are just a couple items touched by light. Just the way you’ve shot this, it makes me wonder what these dolls were doing before you came in? I get the feeling you interrupted them…like they come to life when no one is watching and then have to freeze when they “know” someone is coming. Creepy indeed!

I have to agree! Creepy indeed! You use of lighting is always so perfect!
