THAT DAY

“Every relationship has at least one really good day. What I mean is, no matter how sour things go, there’s always that day. That day is always in your possession. That’s the day you remember. You get old and you think: well, at least I had that day. It happened once. Then you think all the variables might just line up again. But they don’t.”

~Charles Baxter, passage taken from ‘The Feast of Love’

Hard to find a passage more insightful than this one. It’s seems like most of us spend all of our time waiting for lightning to strike twice–and of course it never does.

When I ran across this old issue of LIFE magazine in a coffee shop in San Francisco, I stared at the cover for a long time.  All I could think is, “I wonder if this is their moment–is this the magic that only happens once in a lifetime?”

And if it was, did they waste precious days waiting for its’ return?

When will we ever learn.
