U.S. ROUTE 36

U.S. Route 36 is a lonely stretch of two-lane highway that rambles on for more than 450 miles along the northern border of Kansas.  Passing through all 13 counties that border Nebraska, US Route 36 is the proverbial road less traveled—you won’t find any big cities or major hotel chains on this ride; no shopping malls or box stores.  Break down and you could find yourself in serious trouble; in some places help is more than forty miles in any direction.

Out here, there’s nothing for hundreds of miles—zip, zilch, nada.

And it’s glorious.
